Meet the Team
Steve is a Partner at HLM Capital Management Group. As lead investment strategist, he is responsible for asset allocation and manager selection. Steve founded the team in 1983 at Goldman Sachs. He has been named the #1 Financial Advisor in Illinois by Barron's since 20101 and the #1 Advisor in Illinois by Forbes since the inception of its state rankings.2 Both Barron's and Forbes rank Steve among the top 25 advisors in the nation.3 He has been listed in Barron's annual rankings of the Top 100 Financial Advisors in America since 2004, previously reaching as high as #12 in the nation.4 Steve has a BA in Economics from Stanford University, and an MBA in Finance from Harvard University.
Steve and his wife Janice have been married for over 30 years and have two children, Justin and Shira. Janice and Steve serve on the board of several Midwest offices of national non-profits. Steve is a member of the national board of directors of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.

Ben is a Partner at HLM Capital Management Group. He joined the team in 1996. His areas of focus include global asset allocation, equity manager selection and fixed income portfolio management. Prior to joining the team, he was a currency trader at Mitsubishi Bank in Chicago, Societe Generale in New York and The Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Ben has been recognized by Barron’s as one of the top 1,200 Financial Advisors by state every year since 201O*. He has a BA in Finance from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, and an MBA in Finance from Loyola University Chicago.
Ben and his wife Andrea live in Highland Park, Illinois with their four boys Jack, Bradley, David and Daniel. Ben is an avid cyclist and enjoys the outdoors. He is passionate about finding cures for pediatric cancer and is on the board of Comer Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago. Ben’s family enjoys traveling, hiking, and spending time together at their summer home in Union Pier, Michigan.

Charlie is a Partner at HLM Capital Management Group. He joined the team is 1995. His areas of focus include equity and fixed income portfolio management, diversification strategies for highly concentrated equity holdings, and hedge fund advisory. He is also the equity and fixed income syndicate coordinator. Prior to joining the team, Charlie spent 10 years as an equity and fixed income derivatives trader on the Chicago Board Options Exchange and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. He has a BA in History from the University of Colorado.
Charlie lives in Lake Forest, Illinois with his wife Jennifer and his two daughters, Jane and Megan. Charlie is a PADI Certified Rescue Diver. He and his family enjoy skiing, travel and theater.

Micah has been managing money for more than ten years and focuses on portfolio construction, manager due diligence, and marketing. Prior to joining HLM Capital Management Group, Micah established several private equity and real estate acquisition companies, and has experience in deal structure and investment analysis. Micah was also an equity options trader at the Chicago Board Options Exchange, and has a BA with honors from the University of Michigan.
Micah and his wife Ellen live in Highland Park, Illinois with their three children, Jonah, Maya and Talia. Micah is an avid basketball player. The family enjoys hiking, skiing, spending time together and taking annual summer trips discovering America.

Jacob GrantFinancial Advisor
Jake is a Financial Advisor. Since joining the team full-time in September 2018, he primarily focuses on client acquisition and business development. Jake graduated from Emory University as a Robson Scholar with a BBA in Strategic Management from the Goizueta Business School and a BS in political science. Some of his prior work experience includes Hudson Bay Capital, a New York City based hedge fund, and the White House, where he worked in the Office of the Vice President under former Vice President Joe Biden.
Jake, who is originally from Delaware, now lives in downtown Chicago in the Old Town neighborhood with his Husky, Oliver. He is an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan and in his free time enjoys playing golf and tennis

Michele AspanVice President – Client Services
Michele is a Vice President of Client Services. She has been in the financial industry since 1990, and joined Hefter, Leshem, Margolis Capital Management Group of Wells Fargo Advisors in 1992. Her focus on the team is to facilitate new client acquisitions, maintain client portfolios, and implement investment strategy. She has a BS in Psychology from the University of Illinois. Michele lives in Elmhurst with her husband Rick and their two children, Madeline and Tim. They enjoy watching sports, golfing, and vacationing with friends and family

Kelly LombardoVice President – Client Services
Kelly is a Vice President of Client Services. She has been in the financial industry since 1985, and joined Hefter, Leshem, Margolis Capital Management Group of Wells Fargo Advisors in 1995. She primarily focuses on cash management, liability management, research and supervising trade related processes. She is also the primary corporate liaison. She has an Associate Degree from Harper College. Kelly is involved in animal charities and lives in the Northwest suburbs with her husband Scott and their pets.

Bradley CordesVice President – Client Services
Brad is a Vice President of Client Services. He has been in the financial industry since 1999, and joined Hefter, Leshem, Margolis Capital Management Group of Wells Fargo Advisors in 2005. He focuses on portfolio analysis, reporting, portfolio maintenance, and special projects. Brad has a BS degree from Western Illinois University. He lives in Libertyville with his wife Karen and their two children, Liam and Broderick. They enjoy playing sports, riding bikes and taking vacations.

Karen FinermanVice President – Client Services
Karen is a Vice President of Client Services. Karen joined Hefter, Advisors in 2013. She focuses on client reporting, performance analysis and the new account process. She has a BA in Accounting from Elmhurst College where she was on the tennis team. She actively supports animal rescue organizations and resides in Northbrook with her husband Eugene and pets.
